Are my Cushion Covers Really Important?

by Chris Pana September 12, 2013 0 Comments

It’s not something that we think about a lot, is it? Cushions are those simple home accessories that keep us comfortable, but do you realize how much they matter to how your room appears? Do your cushions make your living space(s) warm and cozy or do they throw off the synergy?

And what if you’re going to use covers? Sure, covers are used to protect cushions from spills, dirt, and dust, but now they are becoming more important in home décor. Cushion covers can add elegance to your home and bring a dull part of your home for life.

There are several things that you need to consider when you are picking out cushion covers.

The first thing that you need to watch for is, of course, the size of the cushion. It would be really annoying to pick the “perfect” cushion cover to discover that, in fact, it didn’t fit the cushion(s) you wanted to use it for. If you buy the cushions before you buy the covers, make sure to take an accurate measurement of the sizes before you shop for the covers.

Homemade or Store-bought?

Many times, people will just buy the cushion covers that they need and call it a day. There are some reasons that may push you to make your own (or have someone make them for you). In rare cases, you may not be able to find any cushion covers in the correct size for your cushions. In other cases, you may just not be able to find any covers that you like. You may not make the decision between homemade or store-bought until after you start shopping, but that’s okay.

Whether you buy your cushion covers from the store or make them on your own, the material that you pick for your cushion covers is very important. There are a variety of options that you can choose from for the material type: silk, jute, cotton, velvet, and polyester/cotton blends are the most common cushion cover choices. The type of material you choose for your cushion covers depends on what the covers are for and the style of the room (velvet and silk are good in luxurious setups, etc). When choosing your material, you also need to think about the colour scheme of your home. The design and colours on the materials can make or break your home décor and layout.

Make sure to consider all of these things when you are choosing cushion covers for your home and you will find the perfect ones that will complement your home and make you, your family, and your guests comfortable.
