Stacey from Feather and Oak discusses jewellery design and where she finds her inspiration for her beautiful creations.
Tell us all a little bit about yourself
I live on the Sunshine Coast with my hubby & three little kids in a little beachside suburb. I absolutely love long lazy days spent with my family when we have nowhere we have to be - so rare to have those days but when they happen they are treasured dearly. When and why did you begin creating jewellery?
I began with an idea of making necklaces as Christmas gifts for my mum, mother-in-law and sisters-in-law. The clay that I ordered took months to arrive and didn't show till after Christmas so that idea bombed out quickly. I still had so much fun experimenting with clay once it finally arrived and instantly I had the bug and had to buy a whole lot more clay to feed my new obsession!
Where do you find inspiration for your creations?
All sorts of random places! Everything around me is a constant source of inspiration. Even just looking out my window at my clothes line and seeing clothes hanging accidentally in beautiful colour combinations have inspired a few of my designs!Any advice for aspiring small business owners out there?
If you have an idea that you're passionate about, don't listen to negativity (from anyone including yourself!) just give it a try and see where it takes you.
Do you have any favourite Australian small businesses that we should check out?
Yes, how many am I allowed? I have so many it's hard to just select a few!
